The Embroiderers' Guild is passionate about developing the interest, skills and creativity of young people expressed through the art of stitch and embellishment. The materials on this site are provided by the Embroiderers' Guild, the only national charity dedicated to promoting embroidery for young people and adults.

The Guild has over 9,000 individual and branch members, nearly 200 adult member branches and over 60 'Young Embroiderers' Groups around the UK. The Guild publishes two nationally distributed magazines... Stitch, mainly for readers who are interested in project-based and practical embroidery and Embroidery, often read by professionals, textile artists and students.

It also has an extensive collection of embroidery items, approximately 11,000 pieces - some of which are very old and some that are more modern. The Collection provides the members with the knowledge of how people embroidered hundreds of years ago, the materials and threads they used and the types of stitches employed. Embroidery is a world-wide art and craft with techniques and stitches varying from one country to another. Through the website we will be able to tell you more about the history of embroidery and how it fitted into the fashion of the time.

The Guild also has one of the finest libraries of embroidery books and magazines in the country.

The Young Embroiderers section of the Guild is devoted to encouraging and supporting young people who want to take up embroidery and textiles from those just making their first stitches to students wanting to base their careers on this area of art and design. The Embroiderers' Guild started over 100 years ago with the aim of encouraging and educating people in the skills and art of embroidery and the Young Embroiderers section of the Embroiderers’ Guild started nearly 40 years ago.

The Young Embroiderers groups around the country are run by volunteer members of the Embroiderers' Guild. The group leaders and helpers and the graduate textile artists we work with have a passion for enthusing and encouraging young people (girls and boys) to learn to create fun, exciting, interesting and artisitic embroidery from practical items and fashion accessories to artistic pieces that push the boundaries of design.
