Why
Research has shown there is a market demand for a new centre for embroidery in Manchester, as a key element of the city's rich arts
and crafts infrastructure. Manchester is an exciting, ambitious
European city and cultural centre, which meets both the cultural
and educational aspirations of the Guild.
The new centre will contribute to the city's heritage, arts, education
and employment strategies, adding value to the city's cultural and
social-economic provision.
Manchester has
the national and international audiences that the Guild is committed
to targeting in the 21st century. The Guild is carrying forward
research and development work with school-age, student and graduate
groups.
With the Guild's global collection of embroideries, it seeks also
to interact closely with local ethnic-minority communities.
The new centre
will provide an unrivalled contribution to the textile world and
will bring together, in one place, textile disciplines, with embroidery
the primary focus.
It will be a major learning and exhibition centre, an international
destination, and will provide a meeting place and forum for the
creative embroiderer and artist, the academic, the fashion and textile
industry, colleges and schools.
